MONEY CAN BUY ANY ELECTION
In regard to last years Fairfield School Board race, the CARE group and I finally received all the campaign finance reports from the board of elections. They are very interesting and raise more questions than answers. Erik, Tony and I raised approximately $3,000 and spent about $3,500. The three tax and spend candidates spent over $43,000. I will remind everyone, the $43,000 was spent for a job that pays $80 a month.
The top contributor to the three tax and spenders was the pro tax group Mom’s on a Mission. Their finance report showed seven contributions that totaled $26,338.37. Five of the seven were contributions between $2,852.60 and $8,923.78. So, here is the $64,000 question, we should all be asking. Just what was it that motivated the top five contributors to spend thousands of dollars to support the candidates who all but promised to raise our taxes. By the way, three of the five don’t even live in Fairfield.
Our opposition spent twelve times what we spent. Bottom line. The election was bought and paid for by the Mom’s on a Mission. It will be very interesting to see why the top five contributors were so adamant about bankrolling the candidates who we all know don’t really care about our kid and will end up raising all our taxes.
I absolutely positively do not believe the best candidates won this election. Our kids and our community will most assuredly suffer because of it. One thing I can say is the candidates with the biggest war chest did win, as usual.
